Associate General Counsel, Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN)
Shawn R. White currently serves as Associate General Counsel and head of legal contracting services team at the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). Previously, Shawn served as the first internal General Counsel and Assistant Corporate Secretary at City National Bank of New Jersey (“CNB”) a community development bank with branches in New Jersey and New York. At CNB, she was a member of the executive committee which oversaw strategic planning and organizational management for the bank and its holding company. Shawn began her legal career in 2001 as a corporate associate at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP where her practice focused on capital market transactions representing a broad range of international and domestic underwriters, issuers and lenders. Drawing on her undergraduate training in Latin American studies and her Spanish proficiency enhanced during an exchange year in Spain at age 16, she served as a member of the firm’s Latin American Practice Group. In this capacity, she worked on a broad range of global finance transactions, mergers & acquisitions and regulatory matters. Shawn left Simpson Thacher in 2006 to join Prudential Financial as Vice President – Corporate Counsel. At Prudential, she provided legal support to the business development department on acquisitions, joint ventures and divestitures for its international businesses in China, India, Japan, Korea, Brazil and Mexico, and she assisted on governance and treasury matters. While at Prudential, Shawn was also selected by Prudential’s General Counsel to serve as Chief Counsel to The Prudential Foundation as a result of her active philanthropic interests and pursuits.
Shawn holds a B.A. in Economics with a minor in Spanish and a concentration in Latin American studies from Barnard College, Columbia University and a JD from Stanford Law School, Stanford University. She is admitted to practice in California and New York. Shawn is a native Californian and after more than a decade on the East Coast, she currently resides on the westside of Los Angeles and spends every free moment on the beach, a hiking trail or riding her snowboard.
